Elegant and aristocratic, created by the important traces of its tradition of power, the fourth largest city of Italy – Turin (ital..Torino ).
Turin is the capital of Piedmont region located on the left bank of the Po River, in the front of Susa Valley and surrounded by the western Alpine arch. From here the name Piedmont , which in medieval Latin Pedemontium or Pedemontis, means “at the foot of the mountains”.
This city offers unforgettable cultural experience walking along its picturesque royal city center, as in 1861 it was the first capital of Italy’s Kingdom and the home to the House of Savoy, Italy’s royal family. “Residences of the Royal House of Savoy” is the Part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and includes about ten residences . The residences were completed around the middle 18th Century and are also known as the “delightful crown” because they surround Turin like a ring. Five of the sites are in the city: Palazzo Reale, Palazzo Madama, Palazzo Carignano, Castello del Valentino and Villa della Regina. The others are outside the city : the Stupinigi Hunting Lodge, the castles of Rivoli – hosting the important Museum of Contemporary Art, Moncalieri, AgliÃ and the Reggia di Venaria.
The historical streets of Turin are also famous for its important sites such as Basilica di Superga situated on the top of the hill near the city, magnificient The Gran Madre , Sanctuary of Maria Ausiliatrice , the Sanctuary of the Consolata, and the churches of Piazza San Carlo.
No less importante are the museums, such as the National Museum of Cinema, hosted by the astonishing Mole Antonelliana, the Egyptian Museum, the Museum of Oriental Arts (MAO), the Museum of Automobile and the Museum of the Holy Shroud.
All over the year Turin offers important events for different flavors. Every year in November takes place the not to be missed event – International fair of contemporary art “Artissima”. The food and wine lovers in to do list must have the visit of the Showroom of taste (Salone del Gusto ) event, which takes place in Turin every year in October. This event promoted by Slow Food association and by Regione Piemonte. The visitors will find all the variety, biodiversity and the complexity of the Piedmont food farming.
