Project Description

 Puglia Tour Discovery

 

Day 1: arrival in Bari and visit of the town and its monuments such as the Romanesque Cathedral of St. Sabina, the Basilica of San Nicola and the Norman castle. Check-in at the accommodation and overnight.

Day 2: visit the old town of Trani walking through the Cathedral on the sea, the Jewish Quarter, the old churches and the Court Palace then continuation to Castel del Monte. The castle that we will visit is protected by UNESCO and was built by Frederick II. It is famous for being the most important Swabian work of southern and worldwide known for its distinctive octagonal shape. Overnight at the accommodation.

Day 3: departure to Lecce, a city known for the elegance of its baroque architecture. Visit of the Basilica of Santa Croce considered the most important baroque expression, the Duomo and Piazza Sant’Oronzo dominated by the famous obelisk. On the way back to Bari, stop to visit Ostuni that it is known as “The White Town” due to its whitewashed buildings. Ostuni is only one of the many white towns built on the top of the hill during the 11th century to protect people from attacks by sea pirates. For its beauty, its staircases, small roads, alleys, arches it represents now, one of the must-see in Puglia. Overnight at the accommodation.

Day 4: departure to Matera. The first part of this day is dedicated to discover the city and its renowned “Sassi” of which the best known examples are the typical ‘cave-dwelling’, partly carved out of the rock and partly built, and furnished as it used to be during the peasant civilization and, the cave church of Saint Lucy of the Malve. In the afternoon transfer to Castellana and visit of the caves, located at the entrance of the Itria Valley and considered one of the most important attractions of Puglia. Overnight at the accommodation.

Day 5: departure to Alberobello. This small town has been proclamed World Heritage Site by Unesco for its trulli, the characteristic white-washed conical-roofed houses of the area. The tour starts from the picturesque area of Monti and runs through the city up to the top of the hill dominated by the Alberobello’s trulli-twentieth-century church, the Church of St. Anthony. Free time at disposal. Overnight at the accommodation.
Day 6: transfer to the airport and end of our services.
